Nap and Pile

Nap

Fabrics with a pile often do have a nap, because the pile has been brushed in one direction (parallel to the selvedge). If yo look from different sides the fabric looks lighter or darker.

Pile

The threads or loops on surface of some fabrics (Cordury, Velvet, Velveteen) are called pile. Both nap and pile should run in the same direction on each pattern piece.
